I’ve bookmarked this–it looks like a fun site!

I can see using the scraps to make some toys, such as a playball with a different fabric on each panel. I could make potholders, patchwork an apron or make a patchwork ribbon blanket. So many scraps…so many ideas!

I would use the fabric pieces in my girls new home ec class we’re having for this homeschool year. I can’t wait! We’re learning several stitches and using patterns to make everything from a small wall-hanging to a tote bag. I could also use it to start me a nice little quilt.

Thanks for this giveaway. Hope that I win it. I can be reached at 4bizkidz at bellsouth dot net.

Well…. I would probably give it to my mom because she loves to sew baby quilts and give them to the local women’s shelter and NICU at the hospital (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
I might keep some for myself though to do those fun little crafty projects around the home… My daughters lampshade could use a re-do.
~I’d also keep some scraps to cover gift boxes and mini albums.
Dang…. there are so many uses for fabric… make a toaster cover,
A table runner, Pillow covers, Fabric applique cards…
Cover coffee cans to make cute craft holders, :) Doggerchiefs (dog neckerchiefs), Doggy Diapers that actually fit and are washable! scented coasters, Christmas gift bags.

My Goodness! I just LOVE Loralie fabrics! :>) I would use them to make wristlets, wallets, purses, luggage tags and many other things for my gift giving for this year! WOW! Sure hope I can win!

    July 30, 2008 @ 6:10 pm
  62. Comment by Janice:

I would use the scraps to make “ouch pouch” bags to give to the local hospital. These bags are similar to a shoulder bag only stuffed with polyester. They are given to women who are recovering from breast surgery/mastectomy to wear over their shoulder. The softness of the filling is comforting to the sensitive surgical area under their arms. This was a well received project of the American Sewing Guild this past year and it is hoped to be continued. The whimsical Loralie designs will be perfect for these “ouch pouches”!

I think the first thing that I would do with 3 pounds of Loralie scraps is just spend time looking at them and touching them. (I’m a bit of a fabric fanatic). But, eventually, I would relenent and use them to make book covers, book marks, softies, patchwork surgical caps, headbands and applique. And then, if there is anything left over, a lap quilt.

I’ve been wanting to make some baby toys. I wasn’t sure if I would make teddy bears, which I have a design for, or baby blocks with letters embroidered on them. I could make a book too. There were those cute designs in a contest before with the princess and the knight. I could buy those (because I didn’t win them) and write a story to go along with them.

I am always behind in what is in and have been hunting for some Loarlie fabric and resorted to the internet, but haven’t ordered it yet, I want to make my sister a quilt as she makes everyone else quilts and saves none for herself. Love the blog

  97. Comment by Marlene Heiting:

Loralie’s scraps would be Marlene’s wraps. I would wrap myself in the fabrics and present them to all my frriends at our embroidery club so they could each have a scrap to play with. We may even have a contest on who could make the most interesting project from their scrap. There is nothing better than sharing Loralie’s fabrics with friends.

Well I love to embroider and make things, but if I won I would give it all to our church quilt making group. It is a group of ladies, mainly older ladies that get together once a week and have been making quilts. They are going to be making quilts for babies that are less fortunate, and sure from there the possiblities are endless. They have completed 1 quilt that will be auctioned off to be able to buy more supplies for more quilts.

    Thanks for reading,

My first reaction when I saw this terrific contest was that I would either make some walker carriers for ladies in a nursing home that my church helps out, or, maybe even use as a decor on tote bags, or both. I can envision using some of these designs being appliqued on those cute denim or canvas totes from Michael’s and making a bunch of these for the ladies of the nursing home. Last year at Christmas time, I embroidered 30 pillowcases for them and they were thrilled beyond words. Our church gifted approoximately 60 people in this home.

My sister has fallen on hard times and she is now living in the Center for Empowerment (a type of homeless shelter). There are lots of women there and most have almost nothing to their names. I would combine the scraps with my fabric stash and make the center some napkins, aprons, pot holders. I would decorate some towels for their kitchen. I would also purchase some inexpensive t-shirts and use the scraps to decorate them so the ladies could have some cute and fun shirts to wear. There are endless things that I could use my new Bernina 730 to make for these gals! There are even some women at the shelter who can sew and they could help which would make them feel productive and useful! That is how I would use the 3 pounds of scraps!

My girlfriends all love my t-shirts with my Loralie designs embroidered on them. They comment every time I wear them. If I won the bag of fabric, I would make each of my friends a pillowcase from the fabric. I would probably (depending upon the size of the fabric pieces) make the body of the pillowcase from the fabric and add a solid white cuff with something embroidered on it to match the fabric. A little piece of lace in the joining seam and it would be done. Such a great gift for my girlfriends.

I would make some placemats, trivets & coasters using the “It’s a Wrap” coil technique and then make some napkins and possibly other table accessories. I’m not sure how many sets three pounds of fabric would make but I would make as many as possible. Some of the coil pieces would be wound with the 1/2 inch scrap strips while others would be pieced. I would donate these items for the fall auction on Nov 8th that benefits our local Family Impact Center that provides food for folks in our Michigan area where tough economic times are creating an unprecedented need for help. Good luck with your decision. Blessings.

There are so many things that you can do with 3 lbs of fabric.
I am a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, (this is an international organization) and we work on various programs and projects.

Depending on the size of the fabric pieces, I would be able to make:
    1) lap robes for the vets
    2) small quits for Operation Smile
    3) child’s hospital gowns for Operation Smile
    4) small wall hangings - to be used at our annual fund raiser for the raffle

These are just of few of the possible uses for this fabric.
I would be over joyed to win this bundle of fabric.

  218. Comment by Carol:

I have just begun learning to quilt and I know the fabric would come in handy. But the real reason I would like the fabric, is that I have an 11 year old niece and a 9 year old nephew. Last week I watched them while their Mother worked and taught them to sew. They each made a pillow using a sewing machine and hand sewing and did a great job! They are now bugging their mother to sew more and are working on a skirt and t shirt. This is a one parent household, so their money is limited. The possibilities of things to make would drive them nuts - let alone give them something to do this summer!

    July 31, 2008 @ 11:09 am
  219. Comment by Karen Sandmeyer:

Three pounds of Loralie colorful scraps is three pounds of Christmas joy! This summer has been very difficult between worrying about my son who is serving overseas in the war, taking care of my elderly parents, and also getting a son ready for college. I am literally estatic at the thought of (finally) sitting down with three pounds of bright, BEAUTIFUL, delicious fabrics and adding a little color in the lives of those folks who serve overseas with several things that fill a care pkg (colorful, embroidered fabric cards, small pillows, drawstring bags to keep out sand, toiletry bags, etc), pillows for my kitties, and nice lap quilts for mom and dad.

  221. Comment by Tonja Hetrick:

Oh my… with three pounds of scraps, I’d be making lots of things, from lap quilts to give as gifts to a smock with pockets for myself to wear while cleaning or crafting (big pockets to hold all my supplies close to hand), and would contribute blocks and/or whole quilts to our church’s quilting club, who make quilts for the homeless people of the DC/Baltimore corridor (not enough shelters to house them all, though area churches take turns opening their doors for a week at a time each and it gets very cold mid-winter.)

I don’t have any Loralie fabrics, but as soon as I saw this, I knew right away what I would do! I am re-doing my sewing studio. I would make a new cover for my “double”. That is the first thing that I would do. I can’t think of anything that would more make me smile than to have her fabric as the cover for my “double”! Then, I would combine what is left to make covers for my sewing/embroidery machine and serger. I would use up the tiniest pieces to make pincusions. I would use every last tiny scrap of it! I would be totally self-centered and not share a bit. Of course, I don’t belong to any guilds or anything as I live out in the middle of nowhere and couldn’t if I wanted to! LOL

  277. Comment by maureen mcgraw:

Love her designs. In keeping with her off beat sense of style and humor, I would use the fabric to put together a totally wild jacket and matching purse. I would use some of her embroidery designs that coordinate with the fabric designs. I would also use some totally wild yarns and specialty threads to add some zing to the jacket. I would then make a one of a kind hat with feathers and fur to wear with the jacket and purse. In keeping with her style I would use bright and exciting colors (reds, purples, golds, magerntas and turquoise) to add punch to the whole ensemble. zaniness would prevail in my execution of my plan. If some of the cat fabrics were included in the mix, I would make a purse with a cat face embroidered on it and add a fake fur tail. the cat would have to have a bit of bling on his collar and fabulous chartreuse crystal eyes with glued on long fake eyelashes. The cat would be “A Cat with Pursonality and Style.” A cat Loralie would be proud of and a one of a kind ensemble I would wear with pride and strut my 64 year old stuff with style. Thank you for your consideration, Maureen
