How Kiwi Embroidery Paper Can Change Your Embroidery Business - It’s Paper, That You Embroider On (duh!)

Written on September 20, 2008

What?  That was what I said when I first heard about this so-called embroidery paper.  Who wants to embroider on paper?  How silly is that?  I have to admit - I was a tough sell, though I tried to keep an open mind.  And then I saw the results -  wow,  amazing.  Seriously?  Paper, though?  That’s right, though It’s not what you think when you think paper (my first thought was of standard copy paper, which this is most definitely not.)  I’ve seen people embroider on card stock, toilet paper and plenty of other obscure items before but with this Kiwi embroidery paper, you will be trying to figure out where you can put your embroidery next.  It’s that cool - this is definitely the next big “thing”, for sure.  You will get addicted to embroidery all over again.  Trust me on this one.

So why is this so cool?  One of the reasons that Kiwi embroidery paper is so unique is that you don’t really need to stabilize it at all.  A roll of sticky paper or standard tear-away with a can of 505 temporary adhesive (did I mention that 505 is on sale?) and you are ready to roll.  Seriously - the hardest part is trying to figure our which patterns to use (I know - I was in charge of figuring out which patterns to get in first.)  There are so many different cool patterns and the colors just simply POP off of the paper.

It’s fast - ever tried to get the fabric to stay put in those acrylic embroidery items (like the tumblers or sippy cups)?  Yeah - good luck with that.  Kiwi embroidery paper will save you 80%-90% of the time that you were spending before prepping, cutting and finishing your projects.  And speaking of acrylic items - when you use the Kiwi paper with any of these unique personalizable items, every project will be a hit.  But a word to the wise - be careful who you choose to show them off to - you will find yourself making more and more - both for gifts and and for favors for friends (believe me, they’ll come out of the woodwork.)

If you have started an embroidery business, this could be a huge addition to your current product offering.  Though creating one-off personalizations are sometimes expensive and time-consuming, the combination of the Kiwi embroidery paper and the acrylic gifts make quick and easy sales.  Set them on the counter, in the window - or just make yourself your own personalized Travel Tumbler.  You will be amazed at the sheer amount of comments that they will generate.

So what do you say?  Are you ready to try something new?  We vote for yes, but be careful - you will get addicted.  I mean - how many different travel mugs does a person really need?  The answer to that is simple, as many as you can fit in your cabinets.  Gotta match that sweater, right?

I haven’t sewn on Kiwi paper, but I’ve been creative on other paper that I purchased at a Art Store, Kiwi wasn’t around yet. Can’t get the paper anymore at the store and I hope that the makers of the Kiwi paper come out with a bigger selection because you can be very creative with all the acrylic items out there. In the June issue of Stitches magazine I was featured with one of my paper projects. More embroiders should get out there and work with paper and makers of kiwi, need to hear from embroiders as to what styles we would like to have out there.
